Hero MotoCorp’s winding path to EV domination

India has faced a peculiar challenge in transitioning its fuel-powered vehicles to electric. Two of the country’s biggest manufacturers in their respective form factors—Hero MotoCorp and Maruti Suzuki—have been reluctant to invest big in EVs. The Japanese automotive giant prefers to bridge the transition through hybrids, like how it is done in Japan, whereas HeroMotoCorp has a “branding” problem. 

That might be about to change in the two-wheeler industry with Hero going full throttle with its EV plans.
