The Ken is a pan-Asian, digital publication headquartered out of Bengaluru, India. Founded in October 2016 by a team of experienced journalists and entrepreneurs, The Ken pioneered subscribers-only online business journalism.

About the role

Our subscribers read our stories exclusively on our proprietary platforms—our website, CMS, and mobile apps for Android and iOS. Ensuring a great reading and product experience is critical for engaging, and growing our subscriber base.

If hired, you will be part of The Ken’s in-house Product & Engineering team that is responsible for building and maintaining the official website (the-ken.com) and the mobile apps.

Our subscriber community includes CXOs, VCs, working professionals, and students. This community is diverse and discerning. They are familiar with and are habitual users of world-class products and services, and expect The Ken to match-up and even surpass them.

This is why a full stack wordpress developer is key for us and our subscribers. This role is for someone who wants to be responsible for building products to help The Ken on its path to 100,000 subscribers and to become the Financial Times, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times of India and Asia.

You will ideate and implement products and features, build experiments, deploy them and work in a cross-functional team of smart colleagues across product management, design, data science, marketing, alongside award-winning reporters and journalists. On the backend you will enable product experiences by working on wordpress, databases and developers in other products like our mobile app. On the frontend side, you will develop product experiences and collaborate to build cutting-edge products to solve for growth and membership services such as billing, payments, personalization, and for retention.

Our tech stack is constantly evolving to keep up with the latest technology — from PHP, WordPress, React Native, and server-side technologies.  This individual is  expected to be an expert in their domain, well-updated and interested in new technology trends and capable of working independently. We are a fast-paced agile work environment delivering quality solutions that have immediate business impact.

The ideal candidate must have the following skills :

  1. Experience in building front-end and back-end high-growth consumer applications.
  2. Fluent in WordPress and back-end technologies like PHP, SQL etc.
  3. Some experience with front end web development (React, CSS)
  4. Designing intuitive and extensible APIs

Experience

Minimum of 1 year experience building products on WordPress, preferably in a consumer application or company.
