About the role
In 2020, The Ken is launching audio stories and podcasts.
Why are we doing this? For two reasons:
We have known this for a while, but we waited and took our time before we decided to do it. Why? Because at The Ken, we understand the value of doing fewer things, and we choose to do new things when we have a compelling vision and resources to build a world-class product.
Now, we are ready. That’s where you come in.
The Podcast and Audio Stories’ editor’s role is to be the voice of The Ken. You will be the person who decides what The Ken sounds like. It’s a role that expands and delivers what our products are already known for – quality over quantity, attention to detail, depth, narrative storytelling, insight, wit and personality.
As our first hire, you’ll get an opportunity to define the product vision, craft it, and launch our first set of audio products. You won’t have to worry about finding an audience – our tens of thousands of subscribers are already waiting for you.
We are looking for someone with ambition, creativity and the drive to do this. The work will be a combination of long-term strategy with short-term execution. We have a culture of ownership. and prefer generalists who love to get their hands dirty – you do not need to be an expert in editing and audio mixing (although that will be a plus!), but you’ll need to understand audio storytelling, have an interest in the technology, business landscape, write tight scripts, work with our editorial, marketing and product teams to define and execute our audio strategy, and maybe host a podcast yourself.
If you are selected, this is all yours – from top to bottom.
2-6 years experience in broadcast journalism or some form of audio storytelling. Experience in business, technology or healthcare journalism is a plus.
This is a full-time in-house role. No freelancers or part-time applicants please.
