The staff writer will cover ambitious and well-funded vertical platforms and marketplaces. In areas like ride sharing, education, wellness, and logistics, there are powerful companies like Ola, Byju’s, Cure.Fit and Udaan that have significant traction, ambition and funding. The reporter will also track developments inside international players like Go-Jek and Grab, who might at some point enter the Indian market too.
We are looking for a driven and experienced reporter who will utilize and form deep connections in these companies, leading venture capital firms, and the wider tech ecosystem in order to source and tell powerful stories about where they’re headed, and why. The reporter should have the ability to spot the fundamental similarities that define large platforms while being keen enough to know how each vertical has different customer behaviour dynamics.
Understanding and chronicling the leaders, teams and organizational structures that power these organizations will also be an important task.
While The Ken does not chase scoops, it does place an emphasis on original insight and impactful breaking news. That will especially be true of this role. The reporter will also work closely with other writers and editors who cover overlapping issues around e-commerce, tech and startups.
The role reports to the Newsroom Editor, The Ken.
