I want to start off today’s Ed Set Go with a question: do you value your degree? I have two, but I’ve hardly ever made any practical use of them. Stories of engineers-turned-MBA are common folklore in India, so Indians are quite used to recognising degrees for what they are: static signals that open certain doors in life.
But when Covid scarred and changed higher education forever, something was shaken loose in this tight weld between degrees and signalling value. In countries like the United States, students were no longer willing to shell out hundreds of thousands of dollars just for a way to signal value.
