Good morning [%first_name |Dear Reader%],
Welcome back to another edition of Ka-Ching!.
If you pay income tax (I-T) in India, 31 July was the deadline to file your I-T returns. In keeping with tradition, I held out until the eleventh hour hoping for an extension. And in a break from tradition, that much-anticipated extension never arrived. The taxman stood his ground.
Which meant I had to scramble into mission mode on Saturday, less than 48 hours before time ran out.
As the reluctant accountant responsible for filing not just my returns but also that of the family, I was in mild panic mode. Unlike my colleague Praveen, who can always turn to Neha from Cleartax for help, I don’t really have that choice. What’s an accountant who can’t even file their own I-T returns, right?
So there I was, trying to calm down and meditate on the many documents I’d need to see me through, when I remembered something: a new document from the taxman.
One that, if done right, can be a tax gamechanger.
