Slow internet in the country is a complex tangle of infrastructure challenges—much of which can be attributed to a ~90-year dominance of two giants, Globe Telecom and PLDT, in the telecom market.
However, Converge ICT, a provincial internet provider established in 2012, emerged as a serious contender against such metropolitan telcos in the fibre internet arena. And amid an intensifying battle, the country is witnessing a significant improvement in speeds.
