Two interesting developments have taken place in pandemic-hit Malaysia.

  • KitaFund, which is a humanitarian and healthcare-focused crowdfunding platform, has set up a Covid-19 page to support fundraising campaigns for medical frontliners and marginalised communities. Started in 2019, the platform has crowdfunded RM4.2 million (US$960,000) across 62,257 unique donors.
  • Biji-Biji Initiative, a sustainable living platform which usually upcycles waste material, has launched a project with its alternative education arm Me.reka to produce protective face shields for medics. The initiative was launched on 24 March and has produced over 20,000 face shields as of 14 April.
