When Abdul, a Jakarta resident in his early 30s, tested positive for Covid in July, he received a message from Indonesia’s Ministry of Health (MoH) on instant messaging platform WhatsApp. The message included instructions for self-isolation, links to a selection of telemedicine apps for doctor consultations, and a voucher to cover the cost of medication.
Abdul had 11 telemedicine options; his pick was the Good Doctor app. Two short chats with doctors later, Abdul received his ‘self-isolation package’ comprising medication and supplements. He paid for it through the government’s voucher code and his package arrived the very next day.
